Penhill Benefice

Living and Sharing the Love of Jesus Christ in the Community

St. Mary's Church, Redmire

Centuries of peacefulness -

Redmire’s “secret church” is tucked away among the fields about a quarter of a mile from the village.

It is unlocked each day so that visitors can appreciate the peacefulness of its interior as well as the beauty of its location. It is a peacefulness which stretches back to about 1150 AD when this grade II listed building was constructed.

It still has a well preserved Norman doorway. Inside there is a fine timber 15th century roof and a 13th century octagonal stone font. The church was extensively restored in 1894.

Out into the community -

Special occasions are held both in the church and the village hall. On Palm Sunday there is breakfast in the village hall followed by a procession to the church.

The Lent lunch, harvest supper and the Christingle workshop are also held in the village hall as well as the monthly tea party. At Christmas there is a Crib Service at the church and carol singing. Each month during the year there are coffee mornings in different homes (see Events).

Come and join us -

St Mary’s is part of the friendly, outward looking parish of Bolton-cum-Redmire and shares the same objective:

‘To show to all people, of all ages, the saving grace of Jesus through the vitality and outreach of our Church services and activities and through the lives of individuals within our Parish, Benefice and beyond.’
