There have been some amazingly wonderful concerts at Aysgarth church during 2023 thanks to the Swaledale Festival and to the Wensleydale Concert Series (WCS). There was breathtakingly exquisite and poetic oboe playing by Nicholas Daniel at the final concert of the WCS 2023 series on September 16 beautifully accompanied on the piano by Huw Watkins. It is an honour to have so many world-class musicians performing at the church.  Scroll day for the Wensleydale Concert Series this year which start on May 11.

Saturday 11th May - Jervaulx Singers
Conducted by Charlie Gower-Smith
A Yorkshire-based professional soloist choir including singers from across the
UK from choral and operatic traditions will perform Brahms – A German
Requiem accompanied by Brahms’s own 4-hand piano version of the score.
The two solo parts are performed by members of the choir.

A four-hand piano recital featuring works by Franz Schubert and Anton
Rubinstein and featuring Stravinsky’s wild and dramatic Rite of Spring

Friday 21st June – Nazrin Rashidova & Daniel Grimwood
A Violin and Piano Recital with works by Arvo Pärt, Grieg, Godowsky,
Moszkowski, Szymanowski, Émile Sauret and Ethel Barns

Saturday 6th July – Benjamin Frith & Heidi Rolfe
A husband and wife four-hand piano recital including music by Field, Satie,
Schubert and Brahms and featuring Rimsky-Korsakov’s - Scheherazade

Saturday 27th July – The Herschel Trio
Named after the famous astronomer, and North-East composer, the Herschel
Trio (flutes, harpsichord and viol) is bringing us a baroque performance
entitled "Baroque Britannia!" including works by Handel, Arne, Purcell and
Finger with traditional airs by Oswald, O'Carolan, together with Welsh airs
and a North/North-East connection with Avison, Garth, and Herschel.

Saturday 17th August - Ashley Fripp, piano
Internationally recognised pianist, Ashely Fripp is performing Schubert/Liszt
transcriptions from Schwanengesang, a selection of JS Bach Preludes and
Fugues from the Well-Tempered Clavier (Book 1) and two late Beethoven
sonatas.

Saturday 7th September - Tango Siempre
Tango Siempre have toured the UK and Europe since 1998 with projects
ranging from traditional tango dance shows to collaborations with
orchestras, contemporary dance companies and jazz musicians. They are
unique in having three composers/arrangers within the band. Their
repertoire consists exclusively of original compositions and of music that
they have transcribed and arranged from historical recordings of the great
Argentinian orchestras and of Astor Piazzolla’s Nuevo Tango ensembles.

Saturday 21st September - Vitaly Pisarenko
Russian pianist Vitaly Pisarenko is in great demand and has performed in
over 30 countries in solo recitals and as concerto soloist with major
orchestras. He was the winner of the 8th International Franz Liszt Piano
Competition in Utrecht and took 3rd prize in the Leeds Piano competition in
2015. His programme will include works by Liszt and Schubert.
